What is Meshtastic?
Meshtastic is a free, open-source platform that turns affordable LoRa radio modules into a long-range, off-grid messaging network — no internet, no cell towers, no subscription required. Devices communicate directly with each other, and each node automatically relays messages through the mesh, extending range far beyond what any single radio could achieve alone.
Our local mesh runs on the LongFast channel preset on slot 0, the default public channel used by Meshtastic nodes worldwide. This means your device is ready to connect right out of the box — just power it on and you’re part of the network.
LongFast is optimized for longer-range communication at a moderate data rate, striking a practical balance between coverage and message throughput. It’s well suited for text messaging, position tracking, and light telemetry across the region.
We currently have active users in Peace River and Grimshaw, and the network grows stronger with every node that joins. Whether you’re hiking, preparing for emergencies, or just curious about off-grid communication, Meshtastic gives your community a resilient, community-owned radio network that works when everything else doesn’t.
